Questions You Should Ask When Ordering Model and Serial Plates

Model and Serial PlatesWhen you order model and serial plates, chances are, you already know what you want to put on these. While you may already know what you want on these metal plates, the question remains, does your manufacturer know? And even better yet, do they even do what you are thinking of having them do with your metal nameplates?

Before you decide on a manufacturer for your model and serial plates, there is one thing you need to do, and that is to figure out which manufacturer to go with and this can be done with the help of some well-placed questions. Knowing what to ask and getting the answers that you require will help you avoid any headaches when ordering. It also removes the possibility of ordering your items and later finding out that some of the features you wanted was not added to your plates simply because the manufacturer was not capable of creating exactly what you wanted.

Here are some of the questions you should ask when you are thinking of ordering model and serial plates:

  • What materials do you use? – they should tell you not only what kinds of materials they use, but also what thicknesses these come in, and for metals, what type or grade. Knowing these can help save you some grief later on since some metals and materials may not be suited to your particular need, and you can choose which of these metals or materials are best for your item or product.
  • How big or how small can you make these plates? – not everyone needs a large model or serial plate, but then again, you might also need one sizable enough for the wealth of information you are planning on placing on this. Knowing whether or not a company can produce a rather minuscule metal plate or a sizable one for your company can help you determine their versatility and flexibility.
  • What marking mediums can you use on these plates? – you should know what marking methods can be utilized in creating your model and serial plates. This is because some marking methods are not ideal for your particular use (may fade easily, won’t last long in harsh conditions, etc.). If a manufacturer can present you with a wide variety of printing or marking methods, and can tell you where one is better than the other for your particular need, then you have a winner.
  • What mounting methods do you have? – mounting options are also important when it comes to finding the right manufacturer for your serial plates. Some plates cannot be attached effectively with adhesives, even if these are heavy duty ones, so you should have the option of using screws or rivets, which can be facilitated with the use of drilled holes. Companies that can offer you not only a wide variety of adhesives but also holes for mounting your plates with should be greatly considered.
  • What are your limitations in terms of what goes on a model and serial plate? – if the manufacturer that you are thinking of tapping for your metal nameplate needs does not do this or does not do that, better run for the hills! Kidding aside, if your manufacturer has too many limitations on your customized plates, it might be a good idea for you to find someone who can guarantee you that you can totally customize the content of your plates.
